What BestPlaces Users Say about Battle Ground

Battle Ground, Washington is a small town located in Clark County, just 30 minutes north of Portland, Oregon. With a population of over 20,000 residents, Battle Ground offers a small-town feel with easy access to big city amenities. It's known for its scenic beauty and outdoor recreational opportunities, as well as its strong sense of community. However, before considering moving to Battle Ground, it's important to hear from those who have lived there. Below are excerpts from four different user reviews about living in Battle Ground.

According to "John D," Battle Ground is a "great place to raise a family." He highlights the excellent schools, low crime rate, and friendly neighbors as reasons why he loves living there. He also notes the town's affordability, saying it's "a lot cheaper than living in Portland but still close enough for a weekend trip." This sentiment is echoed by "Sarah T," who says, "I couldn't be happier with my decision to move to Battle Ground. The cost of living is much more reasonable than other cities in the area, and I feel safe and secure here."

However, not all reviews are positive. "Lisa M" expresses her frustrations with the lack of diversity in Battle Ground. She says, "As a person of color, I've often felt like an outsider in this town. It's very homogenous and not very welcoming to those who don't fit the mold." Similarly, "David B" mentions the lack of job opportunities in Battle Ground, saying, "If you're looking for a career, this probably isn't the place for you. Most people who live here commute to Portland for work, which can be a hassle."

Despite some drawbacks, it's clear that Battle Ground has a lot to offer its residents. From its family-friendly atmosphere and affordable cost of living to its beautiful surroundings and sense of community, it's no surprise that many people have chosen to call this town their home. As "John D" sums it up, "I've lived in Battle Ground my whole life and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. It's a small town with a big heart."

Depends on your politics. - 10/14/2021
I've lived here about 3 years. I was looking for a slower pace of life after retiring, which Battle Ground has. The first 2 years I lived here I would have given it 5 stars, as it seemed to be just right for me. Unfortunately, there is a strong super right political faction here. The founder of the Proud Boys, a radical right group, lives here, and there is a air of tension and intimidation I find very frightening. I am considering moving at this time. I wish I could have found this information when I was looking at moving here. Hopefully, this will help others in making their Read More

Live in Battle Ground now for 16 years and love it. Out in the country it is awesome, plenty of things to do close. Stores, shopping all in town. Close to everything. The one thing I don't like is that people are moving here fast. I liked it better with less people. Plus they built a Walmart in town so I feel it is getting crowded. Read More
